Using the trope of the marks as living creatures and weaving together style, typography, science, and dry humor, Albert Drosoph’s Field Guide to Punctuation untangles the mysteries of punctuation in a non-threatening way. Rather than wanting to shrink from encounters with these marks in anything read, or rather than perseverating about where and how to use them in anything written, readers of this book will intentionally seek out the marks and observe, with a new appreciation, what and how they are doing.

This book will surely change your mind even if you’ve never considered these tiny marks with anything even approaching interest. After reading Drosoph, you will be interested and informed, and you’ll never look at a mark of punctuation in the same way again.

Albert Drosoph’s Field Guide to Punctuation distills extraordinary research of writing styles, conventions, and history into a handy assistant. Take it with you whenever you venture into the worlds of reading or writing; you’ll find it indispensable.

Praise for Albert Drosoph’s Field Guide to Punctuation:

“Punctuation matters, and so does this admirable book about it.”
Steven Winn, author, Come Back, Como: Winning the Heart of a Reluctant Dog

“Albert Drosoph’s Field Guide to Punctuation treats this typically dry subject with playful humor and makes learning punctuation fun . . . The book presents the excellent and detailed material in a way that is accessible to all ages . . . We will refer to it in our teaching.”
Toni Young, Assistant Dean, Legal Research and Writing, U.C. Hastings,
College of the Law, San Francisco

“I found this book especially useful for clarifying the usage of punctuation. I needed a reminder for certain rules that I had either forgotten or misused. Being misunderstood because of confusing writing is a sin for an English major. I enjoyed the refresher course and would recommend [Albert Drosoph’s Field Guide to Punctuation] whole-heartedly, even [to those who] aren’t English majors.”
Herb Bivens, Black Oak Books

"Drosoph’s (actually Jenny Hammer’s) Field Guide to Punctuation is a perfect blend of scholarship and whimsy. Anyone who cares about writing clearly will both enjoy and profit from this book."
Jake Fuchs, author, Welcome, Scholar
